Matrix Ludlow Typograph Cabinet
By: S e l e n a C a t e
There's nothing like winning my heart than Timothy finding this fabulous Letterpress Cabinet for me. I love all things letterpress but a cabinet with 22 Drawers and vintage industrial metal? Full swoon.
The Ludlow Typograph company was founded in 1906 by inventors William Ludlow and William Reade when they sought to create a cheaper version of the Linotype. This cabinet originally held hundreds of little type letters and numbers. Some of these cabinets are sought after by Letterpress designers but more often these sell to crafters and artists. They can hold thousands of little pieces of hardware, paper bits, jewelry, crystals and oh so much more.
This kind of piece leads to me to a conundrum that I often feel in this line of work. Do I keep it or sell it?
75% of me wants to keep it. For some reason though the 25% of me that wants to sell it, gets her way and into the shop it goes. Right now I'm in a space of downsizing and keeping things simple. This means that I search for the satisfaction of finding a new owner for this amazing piece rather than my own selfish need of wanting it for me own. It's a good problem to have. I know someone is going to love this fabulous industrial piece.
